This week the US Postal releases its list of upcoming commemorative honorees for 2026 here.

Being an avid boxing fan for over 40 years, my obvious excitement is towards the Muhammed Ali stamp! He was one of the most entertaining fighters of his time. I was introduced to the world of boxing through my father and his love of the sport. We watched boxing together and enjoyed Ali and the commentator, Howard Cosell verbally sparring in pre-fighter interviews. Ali was playfully brash towards other fighters and knew just how to get in their heads. Fights were 15 rounds back then (as compared to the 8-12 rounders today). So, I was always in awe to see Ali bouncing around, jabbing and moving, glistening with just a little sweat on his tall, lean frame. He was a joy to watch. I believe he started the error of the modern flamboyant fighter.
Then, there was his activism and religion. As far as fighters go, he was a renaissance man compared to other fighters of his time. Ali was well spoken and represented boxing to the world. I love him in the Olympics when he carried the torch. I wasn’t so sad to see him with Parkinson’s boxing is the hurt business and many fighters do suffer the consequences. Today, boxers are superstars, well spoken and very smart. Floyd Mayweather even teaches and promotes how to have a boxing career without suffering the devastating effects of something like Parkinson’s during retirement. I definitely agree and like this direction for boxing. Boxers should be smart and look to avoid getting too hurt.
